Training & Consultancy
I provide training, professional development and consultation for organisations, teams and professionals seeking to strengthen psychological safety, trauma-informed practice and their capacity to respond to complex and sensitive issues.
Drawing on more than 20 years of experience across mental health, sexual violence, trauma, legal and human services settings, my training brings together evidence, practice experience and opportunities for meaningful reflection.
I believe effective training should do more than provide information. It should create space for people to think critically, explore complexity, challenge assumptions and consider how learning can be translated into everyday practice.
My approach is practical, engaging and non-shaming, recognising that meaningful change is more likely when people feel safe enough to participate, ask questions and reflect honestly.
Training & Professional Development
Training can be tailored to the needs, experience and context of individual organisations and teams. Current areas of training and professional development include:
Creating & Maintaining Psychologically Safe Work Environments
Supporting organisations to move beyond the idea of psychological safety as simply individual wellbeing and consider the role of leadership, workplace culture, systems and everyday interactions in creating environments where people feel safe to speak, participate, raise concerns and seek support.
Trauma-Informed Practice
Building an understanding of trauma and its impacts while developing practical approaches that promote safety, choice, collaboration and empowerment when working with people who may have experienced trauma.
The Space Between
Understanding Consent, Boundaries, Power & Respect
Consent is rarely understood through definitions alone. This training explores how consent, communication, boundaries, power and social context operate in real-life situations.
Participants are encouraged to look beyond the most obvious examples of respectful and harmful behaviour and consider the decisions, assumptions and interpersonal dynamics that can occur in between.
Rather than relying on shame or blame, the focus is on strengthening understanding, accountability, respectful decision-making and people's confidence to recognise and respond when boundaries may be tested or crossed.
When Someone Tells You
Responding with Safety & Care
When someone shares an experience of sexual violence, the response they receive can have a significant impact on whether they feel believed, supported and able to seek further help.
This training explores why disclosure can be difficult and how professionals, colleagues and organisations can respond in ways that promote dignity, choice and control.
It also considers how organisational culture, language, systems and professional responses can either support or create barriers to disclosure and help-seeking.
Child Safety
Supporting organisations and professionals to strengthen child-safe practice, understand professional responsibilities and create environments where children and young people are heard, respected and protected.
Vicarious Trauma & Practitioner Wellbeing
Understanding the impact of working alongside trauma and distress, recognising signs of vicarious trauma and cumulative stress, and considering individual, team and organisational approaches to sustainable practice.
Power, Privilege & Intersectionality
Exploring how identity, power, privilege and structural inequalities can shape experiences of safety, violence, help-seeking and access to services, while supporting more inclusive and responsive professional practice.
Creating Space for Difficult Conversations
Some of the most important conversations within organisations are also the most difficult to have.
Topics such as sexual violence, consent, workplace culture, psychological safety, trauma, power and privilege can evoke strong responses. People may arrive with different experiences, perspectives and levels of understanding, and conversations can quickly become uncomfortable or defensive if they are not facilitated thoughtfully.
My approach is grounded in the belief that meaningful learning is more likely when people feel able to participate, ask questions, reflect honestly and sometimes sit with uncertainty.
This does not mean avoiding accountability or difficult conversations. Rather, it means creating a learning environment where people can examine behaviours, assumptions, systems and their own practice without shame becoming a barrier to learning.
I aim to balance safety with appropriate challenge — encouraging curiosity, reflection and responsibility while recognising the complexity of the environments in which people live and work.
Ultimately, the goal is not simply for participants to leave with more information, but with greater confidence and capacity to translate what they have learned into their everyday decisions, relationships and professional practice.
Tailored Training & Consultancy
Not every organisation, team or workplace has the same needs. Training and consultation can therefore be tailored to reflect the particular context, challenges and goals of the people and organisations I work with.
This may involve adapting an existing training package, developing a workshop around an emerging issue, or working collaboratively with an organisation to identify areas where additional knowledge, reflection or practice development may be beneficial.
Consultation may also support organisations to consider how trauma-informed practice, psychological safety, inclusion and responses to sensitive or complex issues are reflected within their broader workplace culture, policies and everyday practice.
Where appropriate, training can incorporate case scenarios, facilitated discussion and practical application, helping participants connect broader concepts with the realities of their own roles and workplaces.
If you are unsure what type of training or consultation would best meet your organisation's needs, we can begin with a conversation about what you are hoping to achieve.
Experience & Expertise
Throughout my career, I have developed and delivered training, education and prevention initiatives for professionals and organisations across government, policing, legal, education and community-service settings.
This has included work with Victoria Police, the Department of Education, Victorian Legal Aid, the Office of the Public Advocate, primary and secondary schools, local government and professionals working across mental health, sexual assault and human services.
I also bring ten years of specialist experience within the sexual assault sector, alongside therapeutic work with people impacted by trauma, violence and other complex life experiences.
This combination of clinical practice, professional education and prevention work allows me to bring both theoretical knowledge and an understanding of the realities and complexities practitioners and organisations encounter in their everyday work.
